 Scratch Doctor Should be Sued for Malpractice! August 18, 2010

This junk should really get zero stars from me! I looked at it online, read the reviews and figured it would be the product to remove some light scratches from my dark blue colored car. I washed the car and applied the Scratch Doctor as directed. Nothing changed. Nothing. I rubbed harder. Nothing. I added more of the goop and rubbed again. Absolutely nothing happened but my arm getting a great work out and me breaking out into a sweat. I paid $10 bucks for a tube of crap. Don't bother with this stuff. If you have scratches, go to the body shop and get them to fix them. Plain and simple.

I have purchased this product after seeing it advertised on TV and this stuff does not work - garbage - a waste of money & time.

Black is perhaps the worst color to have on a car. It shows every defect and flaw. Scratches, smudges, fingerprints...all are seemingly amplified on a black colored car. Add in a metallic finish, and boy do I ever bang my head over why I chose this over the white one on the lot.
When I bought my current Porsche 911 way back when there had been a fairly sizable finish flaw in the clearcoat on the passenger front fender immediately in front of the wheel well. The previous owner apparently had taken something abrasive to the area to remove some sort of stain or buildup that had adhered itself to the car's finish. After a car wash you couldn't help but notice this flawed field of scratches on the car's forward flank, highlighted all the more by the contrast against the car's metallic black paintwork. Prior to finally getting off my duff and formally taking a buffing wheel to the damaged finish, I had tried Scratch Doctor on this area which had been purchased at a local Target store. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at the result, especially given how obviously bad it looked prior to the treatment. I'm not going to claim that the scratches were gone, because up close it was still subtly apparent that there was the flaw, but I had to have my faces inches away from the spot in order to even detect it.
It's probably because of Scratch Doctor's effectiveness in masking this area on the car that allowed me to drop the buffing session with the Porter-Cable way down on this car's to-do list. Scratch Doctor isn't perfect, and hasn't been nearly as effective with surface scuffs that are definitely wider than hairline flaws, or deeper scratches that go far into the car's finish. But with fine, superficial scratches it seems to do a masterful job of concealing such mars in the top coat. That said, with the next car wash or a few days of wet weather, the coating of Scratch Doctor can and will wash away unless a good coat of wax has been applied over it.
Based on my experiences with Scratch Doctor over the years, I'd have to say that the product works quite effectively, but it's not without caveats. A wide scuff in the paint finish will be harder to disguise with this product. And scratches that go deep into the car's finish are just as ineffective to mask. But with every light surface scratch I've tried this product on, Nu Finish Scratch Doctor has come out looking great.
Product Does Not Work for Any Type of Car Scratch July 20, 2010

After applying multiple layers of Nu Finish Scratch Doctor to several fine scratches on my Lexus IS 300, the results had no effect whatsoever. This product does not work as claimed by the manufacturer, not even for the finest hairline surface scratches. I had great expectations in this product because I have used their regular Nu Finish in lieu of regular car wax on my cars for over a decade with great success, because it lasts so much longer than regular car wax.

And I tried several times. Yes, I follwed the directions exactly. It didn't remove a single scratch, no matter how faint. It did NOTHING. I might as well have put Oil of Olay on the car scratches.
