5 out of 5 stars Wax is history! No, REALLY   December 28, 2007

I have done a wide variety of paint compounding and polishing in the past year, all with a DA machine or by hand. I did my 40' tractor trailer box which required 90 hours of multi-step compounding and polishing to restore its 15 year old paint (whew). I did some light polishing of my wife's 2003 Volkswagen Passat which is practically in showroom condition. I also did some touch-up compounding and polishing on my 1993 Porsche with factory original silver metallic paint.

The trailer and the Passat were finished with Meguiar's Quick Detailer, which is sort of a 'cleaner wax', applied by DA machine, removed by hand with final DA buffing for shine. Some areas were finished by hand with Meguiar's #6 Cleaner Wax. I thought they both looked pretty good when I was done.

The wax on the trailer survived exactly ONE truck wash, which left a disgusting streaked and mottled hard-water look and was very disappointing after all that work. The Passat has fared better, being hand-washed, but is also a big disappointment in terms of shine.

My Porsche was last, of course, and I decided to try this Synthetic Sealant as recommended by Meguiar's customer service. I applied by DA machine, removed by hand and buffed some by hand, some by machine. The result is stunning. My car positively glows, day or night. Absolutely nothing will stick to it, and several washings have had no effect at all on the glass-like sealant. Water spots and tree-droppings just dust off with a dry microfiber towel I carry around.

I have just finished re-doing part of the trailer as an experiment to see how it will handle the brutal truck washes. I have to say it was far easier to work on this beast with the sealant than with the Quick Detailer and the 'experiment section' where I left some with a final wax is no contest in favor of the sealant, even twenty feet away.

I have also noticed that the polishing and buffing pads and microfiber cloths I use are literally impossible to clean the sealant out of, which is probably indicative of its durability. All the other polishes cleaned out easily and even the wax cleaned up with enough soap.

The sealant adheres to the paint like a new clear-coat and shines like a mirror. I cannot say enough about this product. Wax is so 20th century!
